Oceans, the little word but contains enormous water, so deep so vivid and so blue. In literature, the beauty of ocean has been defined in different ways. In science, it has been a subject of exploration.I believe ocean has great impact on human lives all along weather they are inspiration, discoveries or source of livelihood.

To raise awareness of the vital importance of our oceans, World Oceans Day is held every year on 8th June and the role they play in sustaining a healthy planet. The oceans provide food, generate oxygen, regulate our climate and so much more. This global celebration recognises the importance of preserving healthy oceans. It is also a day to remind the mankind about the major role of the oceans in everyday life.They are the lungs of the earth, providing 70% of the oxygen.The purpose of the Day is to aware the people of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world’s oceans. They are a major source of food and medicine and a critical part of the biosphere. In the end, it is a day to celebrate together the beauty, the wealth and the promise of the ocean.

The theme of UN World Oceans Day 2020 is β€œInnovation for a Sustainable Ocean.”
This year’s theme is relevant for the coming decade.The Decade will strengthen international cooperation to develop the scientific research and innovative technologies that can connect ocean science with the needs of society.

Oceans serve as the world’s largest source of protein, with more than 3 billion people depending on the oceans as their primary source of protein

Over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods.

Oceans absorb about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans, buffering the impacts of global warming.
